Addicting Smartphone Game Creator Has Change Of Heart

Posted: Updated:

"MY LIFE IS OVER," jokes one fan after he heard that his favorite smartphone game was taken down by the creator. The smartphone phenomenon known as "Flappy Bird" has been removed from the Apple and Google app stores.

The creator, Dong Nguyen, posted a tweet on Saturday saying that he was taking Flappy Bird down and quote "couldn't take it anymore."

The game was a smash hit because of its addicting simplicity. Basically, players tap their smartphone screens to keep a small pixelated bird flying. Your goal is to reach the finish line without sinking or hitting the obstacles in your way.

It's still not clear what Nguyen couldn't take.

The creator says at one point he was raking in $50,000 a day on the app.

It's been downloaded more than 50 million times and has accumulated over 47,000 reviews in the App Store.

Users who downloaded "flappy" before Sunday are still able to play the game, but it is no longer available online.

Dong says he will still create new games.

The creator's post announcing his decision was retweeted 138,831 times and favored more than 40,000 times.

Already, auction sites like ebay have seen a rise in the number of phones being sold that have the Flappy Bird game on it. Some of the sellers are asking for as much as $134,000!
