Potholes popping up everywhere

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Even with road repair crews at it around the clock, they just can't keep up with all the potholes that keep popping up all over the place. That's why tire repair shops are doing a booming business.

There was an especially bad patch of potholes on West 14th Street.  Some cars tried to avoid them while others didn't slow down at all.

All over the city, drivers are having the same experience: the street looks smooth and then all of a sudden they hit a pothole, or two or three.

We saw workers smoothing out the road surface along the Bronx River Parkway. The Department of Transportation tells us that 51 crews patched up 4,483 potholes on Saturday alone. They even posted pictures on their daily pothole Tumblr page but they still haven't gotten to the westbound Cross Bronx on ramp at Webster Avenue.

There was a line to get to a mechanic at a downtown tire shop. As soon as one car or cab was fixed, another one pulled up.

The price to get a used tire to replace a flat on a red BMW ended up costing its owner $100 but he had no choice after a blowout on his way to work.

The DOT says if you see potholes you can report them by calling 311.

The saying art is autobiographical takes on a whole new meaning when your canvas is a fully nude human body, as it is for artist Andy Golub. Andy along with 30 other artists and 45 Technicolor models paraded around several Manhattan hotspots over the weekend for NYC Body Painting day. Believe or not, this is completely legal in New York City.

Emotions about police brutality were still raw at a protest in Harlem Wednesday night. Eric Garner died after police put him in an apparent choke hold. Cops stopped garner for the minor offense of selling loose cigarettes in Staten Island. Officers had been enforcing the so-called broken windows policy.

Archeologists say they've solved a mystery that started with the rebuilding at ground zero. During the excavation at the World Trade Center Site, workers uncovered part of an old ship. No one knew where it came from. Now after years of study, researchers believe the sloop dates back to 1773, built from wood harvested from Pennsylvania, the same kind used to build Independence Hall.
