Posted: Updated:

Authorities say a 17-year-old committed five armed robberies in less than five hours.

The teen was arrested Friday morning after a crime spree on Wednesday in Palmetto.

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports a man was working on a car when someone pulled a gun on him and demanded money. He fled without taking anything. The next robbery attempt happened with similar results.

The final robberies occurred within a 30-minute span. The suspect hit a woman in the head while trying to grab a purse from her daughter. A short distance away he demanded money from a man but fled without taking anything. In the final case, police say he stole a man's wallet and shot him.

The man is recovering.

The teen faces armed robbery and second-degree murder charges.
