One of two women killed in a homicide-arson fire in Hudson was also an important witness in a murder trial.
FOX 13 has learned 24-year-old Jessica Keith was going to testify against a man charged with killing her boyfriend.
A neighbor said Keith couldn't seem to escape the drugs or violence.
"We all want know who did this. Why would somebody do something that crazy. It's just insane," they said, not providing their name.
Just three years before she and her roommate were murdered, Keith's boyfriend, Kamar Allen, was found in a ditch with a bullet in his head.
Deputies arrested James Barron in the case. They called him a "gang thug" who ran a burglary ring.
They also said he hatched a murder-for-hire plot to kill witnesses from behind bars.
His mother, Michelle Miller, was an alleged accomplice.
Detectives did not say whether Keith was on the hit list, only that the home was known for drug activity.
"Everybody knows somebody who is addicted to drugs or has a problem with drugs. We need to solve that addiction. Nobody deserved to be killed and left in their house to burn," said Keith's neighbor.
Investigators and prosecutors don't have any hard evidence linking Allen's case to Monday's fiery murders.
But neighbors can't help but wonder.
"They seemed like pretty decent people. They were just out walking their dog the other day," the neighbor said.
Detectives said they have several "persons of interest" in the case.
Barron will go to trial for the murder-for-hire charges on Monday.
