Facebook at 10

Posted: Updated:

A decade ago Facebook started in a college dorm room. Today it has more than 1.23 billion users worldwide. That's more people that live in any country except China. As the company celebrates its 10th anniversary we scroll back on our timeline way back to 2004.

The year 2004: USHER, Ludacris and Little John had the hottest song. George W. Bush accepted his second Republican nomination for president. And in a Harvard dorm room, a company called TheFacebook was formed. TheFacebook eventually dropped the "The," and the company has grown into a global success. The company celebrated with a birthday song to itself. The rest of us celebrated by doing what nearly 143 million users do every day: checking statuses, liking pictures.

Lance Ulanoff, editor of mashable.com, an online news site that covers all things digital, authored an article on how Facebook has changed the world, everything from our interactions with each other to politics and privacy. So are the social media giant's best days behind it? Ulanoff says he doesn't think it's going anywhere, but he says he can't say where Facebook will be in 10 years.

We assume someone will update their timeline and let us know how it all turns out.
