The wife of drag racing legend Don Garlits passed away over the weekend, according to the NHRA.
Pat Garlits died Sunday at her Ocala home, apparently after a bout with an unspecified illness.
"My dear wife of nearly 61 years left this world and went over to the other side at 5:53 PM, this afternoon," stated a Facebook post shared onto the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing page. "She has been suffering a lot these last few… days and it was a Blessing to see God take her into His care."
Don "Big Daddy" Garlits, a Tampa native, is considered a father of modern drag racing. He retired from full-time racing in the 1990s but still operates the museum bearing his name near his home.
A 2012 story about Don and Pat on NHRA.com paid tribute to her as the woman who "was there to nurse his wounds and his ego when things went bad."
Funeral arrangements are still pending.
