Girl Scout Troop Leader Busted for Embezzling Troop Funds

Posted: Updated:

Who would steal from Girl Scouts?  How about their own troop leader?

The troop leader of a girl scout troop in Redlands  has been arrested for embezzling more than $5000 from the troop.

Michelle Marie Villa allegedly used the troop debit card to buy more than $5,000 in personal items such as groceries, craft supplies, athletic gear and a computer and a printer.   The unauthorized charges went on for a year,  between July 2012 and July 2013.

The Girl Scouts of San Gorgonio's headquarters in Redlands reported the embezzlement to Redlands police last December.  They served a search warrant at Villa's Redlands home last week and discovered evidence of the embezzlement and arrested her.

She is currently free on $50,000 bail.
