Damaged I-75 lanes back open after repairs

BRADENTON (FOX 13) -

All lanes of Interstate 75 near the Manatee-Sarasota line are back open after an overpass was damaged.

All but one southbound lane of I-75 and University Parkway were closed after the surface of the highway was damaged Monday afternoon.

There were at least three holes in the overpass; the largest was the size of a manhole cover.

Robin Stublen, a spokesperson for the Florida Department of Transportation, said a large piece of metal equipment weighing "thousands of pounds" came off a truck and bounced on the roadway, causing the holes.

Crews spent the night working to clean up the damage and repair the holes.

University Parkway was also back open Tuesday; it had also sustained damage in the accident.
