A woman is staying with friends after a large hole opened in her driveway in Holiday.
The hole was discovered in the 4900 block of Calais Drive early Sunday.
Neighbor George Kimball said he has lived next door for 30 years.
"A lady was walking a dog up the street. She rang my door bell and said 'you know there is a sinkhole next door to you? A real big one?" said 89-year-old Kimball."I came out and looked at it. I couldn't believe my eyes."
Pasco County Fire and Rescue officials said the hole is 20 feet wide and 15 feet deep.
The hole reportedly opened in the driveway and moved towards the garage.
Firefighters evacuated two houses as a precaution.
"It's so close to my house. That puts the worry in me," said Kimball. "If it spreads, I got my car parked across the street."
Firefighters checked the hole throughout the afternoon.
Officials said it does not appear to be moving.
Neighbors have been allowed to return home.
The house drew curious onlookers.
"I can't believe it. My gosh, what the heck," said Joy Zupancic who lives nearby. "Unbelievable."
The 72-year-old woman who lives at the house did not want to talk on camera.
Close friends said she has lived there for 21 years and has two cats.
Both pets escaped from the home, but one ran away this afternoon.
"She called me on the phone and said I have a sink hole," said friend Audrey Driver. "I said 'okay, I'm going to get dressed. I'm coming up."
Driver said her friend does not have insurance and is getting help from the American Red Cross.
"She is very nervous. She is holding herself together," said Cheryl Long of the American Red Cross. "She is of course very upset, so we take over and try to help her find the phone numbers she needs to call to find out if this is in fact a sink hole or if it is just a hole in the ground."
The uncertainty has friends and neighbors worried.
"Even when I walk back there, I'm thinking where is the next crack?" said Driver. "You never know."
