Deputies in Polk County have arrested one of their own for allegedly asking female suspects to expose their bodies or allow him to touch them in exchange for preferential treatment.
Deputy Julio Jose Garcia, 26, faces several charges after an investigation that lasted for over two months. According to the sheriff's office, the first allegation was made back in November by a woman who said she had been propositioned by Garcia while she was under arrest.
"I can probably get you out of this situation if you want," she recalled him telling her, according to the arrest report.
When confronted with the accusations, Garcia declined to speak without an attorney.
A subsequent investigation turned up a second woman who told detectives that Garcia had touched her beneath her clothes after she had asked not to be arrested.
Undercover detectives also say they discovered that Garcia had been misreporting his patrols. They said he left his assigned area numerous times while on patrol and later falsified official records by stating that he had patrolled certain areas at times when he was spotted elsewhere.
Garcia, who was hired un August 2011m, was suspended last Friday and arrested Wednesday. He faces charges of unlawful compensation for official behavior, display of a firearm during a felony offense, and falsifying an official record.
