Guadagano Flatly Denies Allegations of Political Bullying

Posted: Updated:
HOBOKEN, N.J. -

Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno today flatly denied new allegations of political bullying. Those allegations were made by the mayor of a community ravaged by Superstorm Sandy. It's getting nastier with each passing day from the democrats now, new claims of strong-arming by the Christie administration and from Republicans, an organized effort to stand behind the embattled governor with allegations of their own. At an MLK Day of Service event in Union Beach, Lt. governor Kim Guadagno blasted the mayor of Hoboken.

"Frankly, I'm surprised that mayor Zimmer has chosen to mischaracterize a conversation I had with her about development and job creation in Hoboken," Guadagno said.

In an appearance on MSNBC Saturday- the video still creating a buzz on the network's website Dawn Zimmer claimed Guadagno threatened- in May of last year to withhold Superstorm Sandy relief funding for flood ravaged Hoboken unless the mayor threw her support behind a city development project favored by Governor Christie.

"The Lt. Governor came to Hoboken, she pulled me aside in the parking lot and she said, 'I know this is not right. I know these things should not be connected, but they are, and if you tell anyone, I'll deny it," Zimmer said. "It's not fair for the governor to hold Sandy funds hostage for the city of Hoboken because he wants me to give back to one private developer."

"So yes, I am very surprised by the mayor's allegations and I deny, wholeheartedly, those allegations," Guadagno said.

Meanwhile, Republican surrogates hit the airwaves this weekend to criticize Assemblyman John Wisniewski, the North Jersey Democrat leading the probe into the Christie administration's George Washington bridge scandal.

Rudi Giuliani noted that Wisniewski has expressed skepticism that Christie did not know his aides were deliberately snarling traffic leading to the George Washington Bridge.

He appeared on "Meet the Press" and his segment still getting attention on the program's website.

"It would seem to me the assemblyman has an ethical obligation to step down- to recuse him. He's no longer an impartial arbiter of the facts. He's announced he doesn't believe Governor Christie," Giuliani said.

Governor Christie's office said this afternoon that Hoboken has received its fair share of Sandy Funding, and noted that mayor Zimmer had good things to say about working with the Christie administration before and after the alleged May 2013 incident.

Zimmer stands by her story, but says she should have come forward sooner.
