Events around Michigan honor Martin Luther King

DETROIT (AP) -- Events are planned around Michigan to honor Martin Luther King Jr., including a march and rally in Detroit.

The annual MLK Day Rally & March begins around midday Monday at Central United Methodist Church, and includes a downtown march.

The Detroit Historical Museum will open its doors for free on Monday. The 'Bring the Dream to Life' event will take place from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Activities include an exclusive screening of the film 'Episode Five: Rise! The Road to Civil Rights 1940 through 1968.'

In Ann Arbor, activist and entertainer Harry Belafonte plans to deliver the keynote address for the 28th annual Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Symposium on Monday morning at the University of Michigan's Hill Auditorium. It highlights days of events at the school.

Public Enemy rapper Chuck D plans to give the keynote speech Monday night at Grand Rapids Community College's 28th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day commemoration.

On Sunday in Kalamazoo, hundreds participated in a celebration at Galilee Baptist Church. The event's theme was "Unfulfilled Dreams."
