Organizers hustled to
complete the final projects for Gasparilla Friday.
Customers filled the eventfest office on Cass Street, picking up reserved tickets for the children's parade. More than 100,000 people are expected to attend festivities on Bayshore Blvd. Saturday.
"Every time I walk away from my desk, I go back and have 20 more emails," said Event Coordinator Maiken Stefany of Eventfest. "Our office is working as quickly as we can."
Next door, crews checked tires and breaks on parade floats. There are eleven floats in this years fleet, including a new addition.
"This year we're replacing our old octopus float and what we are replacing it with is 'The Cracken' said Don Barnes of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla. "It's a work of art."
Orlagh O'Rourke lives off Bayshore and described the atmosphere on parade day.
"You see people walking at 7 in the morning, wanting to get seats," she said.
