An American Idol star is born, and he hails from none other than Bradenton. Sam Woolf is heading to Hollywood!
The Braden River High School senior's tryout in front of the Idol judges in Boston aired Wednesday night. He got the thumbs up from all three judges.
"I can't really describe the moment, but I did scream a lot," Sam laughed.
His grandpa, Roy Woolf, says it sure did echo.
"We were in a room with 400 other people. All the sudden we hear this scream in the hallway, this was a quarter block away. And I said, that's Sam," Roy said.
While Sam is just beginning his Idol journey, he's already getting a taste of sweet stardom.
"It's weird just having a bunch of people Facebook me and Tweet me. But I like it, it's cool!" he said.
Sam's been belting out songs since he was in diapers and performing since he was 13. But now, his talent is taking him to a place that was previously just a dream.
"He used to talk to us about it, 'One day I want to be on American Idol!' I knew it was the dream of a little kid. To see this actually happening was fantastic," Sam's grandma, Jackie, said.
Sam can't talk much about what's ahead on the show, but one thing's certain: his family will be biting their nails.
"It does make me nervous to think of him, because it's a lot of pressure. But he has really grown so much and he's ready for it," Jackie Woolf said.
Sam says this is his shot at pursuing his passion. His heart is full and his pitch is perfect.
"I'm confident. I'm going to try my best and just do my thing," Sam smiled.
