PINELLAS PARK (FOX 13) -

Two students in separate cases were hit and injured on their way to school this morning. One of the incidents happened in Pinellas Park, the other in Tampa.

An 11-year-old student at Cross Bayou Elementary School in Pinellas was injured when an SUV hit him on his bicycle. It happened around 7:10 a.m. in the 9700 block of 66th Street North, police said.

The student suffered non-life threatening injuries, police said, though their injuries were severe enough to be transported to the hospital via an ambulance.

According to investigators, the boy was riding north on 66th Street and crossed into the path of the SUV. He was not wearing a helmet and there was no light on his bike.

In Tampa, a 12-year-old girl was hit while in a crosswalk at Diana and 22nd Street. The girl was walking with a group of friends but was lagging behind the other children.

The driver told police he didn't see the girl. Police charged him with failure to yield to a pedestrian at a crosswalk.

The girl was also taken to the hospital but is expected to be OK.
