When a massive American flag was pulled back this morning, Michael Nicholson got the gift of his life.
And it's a well-deserved gift for one of our American heroes.
The Sergeant was severely wounded while serving in Afghanistan in July 2011. Nicholson lost both his legs and left arm in an IED blast.
Today, through the help of several organizations, Nicholson received a new "smart home." The house is equipped with many features to help Nicholson live and get around.
"The countertops in the kitchen are your standard height, but if you touch a button, there are sections where there is a cook-top, where there's a sink, where they will lower down, so someone can cook or clean the dishes from a wheelchair," John Hodge of Tunnel to Towers said. "If you push another button, some of the upper cabinets come down."
The house is located off Interbay Avenue in Tampa, and the gift was coordinated by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and the Gary Sinise Foundation.
