Not even the cold could stop a group of swimmers from training – even
if their coach suggested they do it.
Despite the frigid temperatures, a team of swimmers at the Brandon Sports & Aquatic Center were in the outdoor pool at 5 a.m. sharp.
"The pool temperature is about 82 degrees, so it's actually more like a sauna for them," said the team's coach, Ron Turner.
Turner said the team did not practice yesterday because it was too cold, but he said this was going to be one of those mornings where the team got better.
"These kids are really goal-oriented and committed to what they do," Turner said.
Turner said there's a special tactic for getting the swimmers in and out of the water. For their safety, they have about 40 seconds from the time they take off their parks to the time they're supposed to be in the water.
He said taking two days off of practice was just too much time away from the pool.
