City Council votes to end ethics investigation of Johns Creek mayor

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. -

A bitter internal investigation of the mayor of Johns Creek has come to an end.

The Johns Creek City Council, comprised of two newly-elected  members, voted to cancel the investigation and halt subpoenas seeking additional information from the mayor.

Mayor Mike Bodker says, "Yeah, I think this investigation has run its course. Its purpose was to get me unelected. It failed."

Back in June, the Johns Creek City Council voted to conduct an internal ethics investigation of Mayor Mike Bodker. The investigation focused on rent Mayor Bodker paid for a four-bedroom townhouse development, owned at the time by a friend and local developer.

The FOX 5 I-Team obtained the latest findings of that investigation which state Mayor Bodker "misled the public, this council and the Investigators" regarding the extent of a discount he received on his rent, which totaled "$300 per month."

City Councilman Brad Raffensperger says the findings show  a conflict of interest. "Why? It's a $3,600 benefit, as they call it, a gratuity, that's the term."

Mike Bodker says he can't comment on the most recent report, because he considers it attorney-client privilege. But he did say, based on earlier findings, he got no rent reduction and paid a fair market price.

"What I can comment on," says the mayor, "is I don't have a great deal of faith in the way the investigator goes about his math calculations."

But, now, the investigation is over. The new council, with two newly-elected members, voted to fire the outside lawyer, cancel the investigation, and rescind the subpoenas seeking additional information.

Mayor Mike Bodker says the Johns Creek citizens have heard enough:  "If they think I've done something wrong, file an ethics complaint. If they think its criminal, go talk to the DA."
