Freeze warnings in effect for Bay area

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA (FOX 13) -

Freeze warnings are in effect for the Bay area tonight, as a historic cold front moves across the U.S. today.

Extremely cold weather swept across the northern part of the country overnight, dropping temperatures in some areas to well below 0 degrees.

In some parts of our area, temperatures will dip below freezing. Forecasters say the night to cover up your plants is tonight.

"Grab your jackets because you'll need them as soon as Monday evening," Fox 13 meteorologist Dave Osterberg said.

Wind chill temperatures will be at or below the mid-20s in much of the Tampa Bay area Tuesday morning.

The front is also bringing rain across some parts of Florida today, but that shouldn't be a big issue here.
