Deputies are investigating the bizarre death of a man in Davenport.
Larry G. Strouse, 48, was struck and
killed by a car on U.S. 27 on Sunday evening, and deputies say he had been missing from a nearby hospital.
According to the sheriff's office, Strouse was hit by a four-door Chrysler near La Casa Del Sol Boulevard. Deputies say he was a patient at Heart of Florida Hospital in Haines City for several days.
Hospital staff say he had removed his IV and left the hospital on foot. They reported Strouse missing to local police.
They were looking for him and then connected him to the missing person's report after he was struck by the vehicle.
Polk County deputies say the impact
propelled Strouse more than 100 feet from the location he was struck.
One person inside the vehicle was hurt. No charges were filed against them.
The investigation continues today.
