Gunman opens fire on New Years eve party, two shot

Posted: Updated:
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

Two people were shot at a New Years eve party in Eastpointe.

The night began with an 18-year-old throwing a bash for around 20 friends in his parents' garage. One friend brought an uninvited 19-year-old guest from Warren. Police say the guest began touching several girls inappropriately and was asked to leave.

There was then an altercation between the Warren man and another young man outside. Police say the uninvited party-goer then left, but soon returned with bad intentions.

Investigators say the man opened fire on the garage, targeting the man he previously fought with.

An 18-year-old and 19-year-old were hit and taken to a hospital. They are both expected to recover.

Police were able to get a clear description of the suspect as well as a phone number and soon arrested him.

Eastpointe police are expected to hand the case over to the Macomb County prosecutors' office Friday morning. We're told the suspect is expected to be formally charged later in the day.
