Kriseman sworn in; promises access to Pier

Posted: Updated:

On the steps of City Hall, St. Petersburg is swearing in its new mayor.

Many gathered for a ceremony in downtown St. Pete to see Rick Kriseman into office as the city says goodbye to Mayor Bill Foster.

Kriseman has taken the oath of office, entering into an important period for St. Petersburg, which faces questions about the Tampa Bay Rays and what to do with the Pier.

The new mayor immediately promised to remove the "unfriendly fence" around the now-closed Pier and allow access to the perimeter of the property within a week.

Two city council members were also sworn in at the ceremony.

Kriseman defeated Foster in November.
