TAMPA (FOX 13) -

Florida workers will be starting the new year with a little extra money. Another minimum wage hike kicks in January 1.

The state's minimum wage will be $7.93 per hour. That's 14 cents higher than what it is right now.

And that's about a $5 increase per paycheck. The minimum wage is actually rising in 12 other states as well.

The wage boost is expected to help more than 2.5 million Americans.

Washington state has the highest minimum wage in the country at $9.19 an hour.
