The pilot of a small plane was rescued after a watery landing in St. Pete this afternoon.
The single-engine Cessna crash-landed in Boca Ciega Bay, just north of the Pinellas Bayway. That's off the Isla Del Sol Yacht and Country Club.
One person was onboard. The pilot, Tom Beaman, was picked up by a passing boater.
"The engine just quit; just stopped," Beaman explained matter of factly. "So I just had to land in the water."
The view from SkyFOX showed a small plane upside-down, completely submerged. Several boats were circling the site.
Beaman was checked out at the scene by paramedics, but suffered only a few gashes on his face.
He told FOX 13 he's been flying for 43 years.
