Police: Sex predator targeted young family member

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA (FOX 13) -

Tampa police are searching for a violent sex predator accused of targeting a young family member.

The parole officer for Christopher Jones says he tore off his ankle bracelet on Christmas Day and has not been seen since.

Investigators want Jones for a list of charges but are having a tough time tracking him down. Police say they're relying on the community for tips.

Neighbors tell us police locked down the area surrounding Jones' home Tuesday night while they were looking for him.

Police say the female victim's mom called them when her daughter told her what happened. Neighbors think Jones was tipped off about that call, and that's why he ditched his ankle monitor and disappeared.

"We want to find him," Andrea Davis of Tampa police said. "Obviously, this little girl, a family member, is scared, and we want to provide some sense of relief knowing he's behind bars."

One neighbor said they don't need "people like him" in the neighborhood.

Jones spent about nine years behind bars for rape and aggravated battery. He's been on probation the past two years, and that doesn't expire until 2040.

Fox 13's Michael Shingleton contributed to this report.
