Days like Christmas are tough for people struggling to make ends meet.
Metropolitan Ministries is there to help – rallying to give food and presents to hundreds of Bay area families in need.
Today will be no different, but this year, donations weren't keeping up with demand. Metro's shelves are emptying fast, and the charity came very close to running out of toys.
"We don't want anyone to leave this tent without a little hope that comes from a meal or some toys for their child on Christmas Day," Madelyn Cloninger of Metropolitan Ministries said.
A few last-minute donations helped Metro meet its goal. About 1,600 families were scheduled to receive toys for Christmas.
The staff is busy cooking a big Christmas dinner for the homeless. Around 11 a.m. Wednesday, they're hosting a huge holiday party at their tent on Florida Avenue in Tampa.
We're told all are welcome to come.
