A new program is making it easier for Clearwater residents to dispose of large boxes during the holidays.
Clearwater police are teaming up with the city's solid waste department for "Operation Safe Disposal." The program provides an alternative to curbside trash pickup of large boxes.
"Typically, people probably don't think twice about putting everything they have out with the trash," said Rob Shaw, a spokesperson for the Clearwater Police Department. "If you have the giant 70-inch TV box out with the trash for eight hours, that's kind of an open advertisement that says 'you know, make me a crime victim.'"
The program offers eight locations for residents to drop off their boxes.
"Operation Safe Disposal" begins today and runs through Jan. 1.
The bins will be removed Jan. 2. The items inside will be recycled. To find the large blue drop-off bin near you, click here: http://www.myfoxtampabay.com/story/24290257/2013/12/23/clearwater-big-box-drop-off-locations
