Red Cross Santa Gift Run

Posted: Updated:
Elizabeth, New Jersey (MY9NJ) - This year 485 homes were affected by fire and the Red Cross responded to all of those homes with their disaster service volunteers.

These volunteers go with first responders in order to help those affected to get housing for the night, food, shelter and clothing. Then, on one special day during the holidays they all come together to do something very special for these families.

The volunteers along with Santa Clause participate in a holiday gift run from Elizabeth, New Jersey down to Trenton visiting all those families who were affected by fires throughout the year.

Diane Concannon is one of the Red Cross volunteers who explained more about this wonderful program.

“Our disaster services volunteers put this program together years ago and it’s reaching out to children who have had home fires and we get wish lists from their parents.” She said.

The gifts are donated by Wilkin & Guttenplan and members of the Physician Assistant Foundation in order to give these families a holiday to remember.

We all know smoking is bad for you, but shouldn't it be your choice to have a smoke or not? A new law in Sayreville, New Jersey will now limit the sale of cigarettes only to people 21 years-of-age or older. While this law was passed with the intention to help reduce the number of teenage smokers, all its really done is anger convenience store owners and drive away customers.
