JCPenney remains closed at Brandon mall after fire

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

The JCPenney store at the Westfield Mall in Brandon will remain closed as crews cleanup the damage left from a weekend fire.

The two-story department store suffered about $1 million in damage after what investigators believe was an electrical fire.

It happened around 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Several employees were inside when it happened and got out safely. There were no injuries reported.

This is about the worst time possible for the department store. The hustle and bustle of Christmas-time shopping is nearing its end.

It's unclear how long the store will be closed. The mall on Monday just said "until further notice."

Mall officials did stress, however, that the rest of the mall is open.
