Man faces up to 85 years in drug turf death case

Posted: Updated:

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - A man whose federal conviction in the beating deaths of three Bridgeport residents was tossed out faces up to 85 years in prison after being convicted in state court.

The Connecticut Post (http://bit.ly/1bXo6h2 ) reports Efrain Johnson was convicted of murder Friday in the death of 43-year-old Tina Johnson.

Authorities say Johnson and three other men beat the victims to death as part of a drug turf dispute. Johnson was acquitted in the deaths of the other two victims.

Johnson had been convicted of three counts of murder in aid of racketeering in federal court but a judge tossed his conviction in July, saying there wasn't evidence he was part of a criminal enterprise.

Johnson is scheduled for sentencing in February. Defense attorney Todd Bussert says he plans to appeal.
