Washington Township Teachers Sleep On Roof Of School

Posted: Updated:

"It was like crazy how they were doing this," said 7th grader Jamie Lavrosciano. She's one of many students at Bunker Hill Middle School in Washington Township enjoying a challenge they won. It landed their teachers an overnight stay on the roof of the school.

"They're probably going to be freezing all night, said 7th grader Sarah Krone.

Several students made a special trip out Thursday night to make sure the teachers kept their word. Teachers challenged students to donate toys for Toys for Tots drive. They surpassed the goal of 1500 toys, forcing teachers to pack up for a cold night's sleep.

"Some of us are doing well. Others are freezing to death," joked Technology teacher Patrick Goliszewski. He is one of five teachers camping out.

"We've got a couple tents, chairs and festive Christmas lighting. Thanks to some of our fellow teachers we have some cookies and some nice stuff up here to snack on," said Goliszewski. With a little humor it appears they'll make it through the night. One teacher dressed as Santa joked that the cold isn't the worst part.

"The other guys in the tent snoring is the worst," said Tom Ryan.

Teachers threw out candy for students who braved the cold to cheer them on and some student carolers showed up.

"I think it's a good idea because some people don't have enough money to buy toys for their kids. This just gives them a chance to have a regular Christmas like us," said Krone.

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
