Funeral Services Held For Carjacking Victim

Posted: Updated:
Lakewood, New Jersey (My9NJ) - Yesterday funeral services were held for Dustin Friedland, the young lawyer whose life was taken too soon during a carjacking at the Short Hills Mall. Friedland was shot in the head while he was opening the car door for his wife after a day of shopping last Sunday evening.

Many people attended the funeral to pay their respects to Friedland and his widow. Gina Klein, a Friedland family friend recalls just how great of a guy Dustin was. “Dustin was a friend of my daughters, they went to Hebrew school together and went to high school together. He was just doing what Dustin would do; ya know opening the door for his wife, he would have done it for anyone,” she said.

The suspects in this shooting are still at large and the victim’s uncle has been quoted as saying that he wants the people who did this dead. However, at the services the feeling of anger was overpowered by the sadness of a young life lost. “I feel you get what you deserve and it will come back to them and I hope it will be very soon. In my opinion, they do not deserve to take another’s life,” Klein said.

Those who attended said that the service was incredibly moving. Dustin’s wife Jamie who witnessed her husband’s shooting even stood up and bravely addressed the crowd. She expressed how Dustin was the love of her life.

As far as the investigation goes, there is a surveillance tape that exists, but it will not be released. Speculation is that the tape hasn’t been much help in identifying any of the suspects. The reward for any information leading to an arrest has now been raised to $41,000.
