Posted: Updated:

A portion of southbound Interstate 75 was closed near Sarasota after a dump truck struck the side of an overpass.

The Florida Highway Patrol says the incident happened around 2:35 a.m. Wednesday at the Ponce DeLeon Boulevard overpass, near mile marker 184.

The southbound lanes were closed between the River Road exit and Sumter Road.

As of 4:15 p.m., officials said the road was back open to traffic.

The Florida Department of Transportation sent bridge inspectors to the scene to assess the damage.

There was no immediate word on how much it will cost to fix the bridge.
