Posted: Updated:

An elderly couple was shot and left for dead in their own backyard in Upson County on Monday night, according to investigators.

Deputies said that James and Linda Reeves were ambushed in their yard after a trip to Walmart.  James Reeves, 77, was shot in the head and chest; Linda, 71, was shot in the shoulder. They were treated and released from the hospital on Tuesday.

The couple owns The Garden Patch, a popular restaurant in Barnesville.  The business has been a staple in the community for 12 years.

Upson County's sheriff told FOX 5 that he believes the couple was targeted, but isn't sure why.  Deputies are continuing to search for the perpetrators.
