A fight between teenagers turned deadly Friday when a 16-year-old was killed at a community club house in Wesley Chapel.
Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said the ordeal started as an argument between Cleave Gittens, 18, and Tuvarrion Sirmons at Gittens' home.
Nocco said the confrontation escalated at the Meadow Pointe Two club house on County Line Road, and ended when Gittens stabbed Sirmons to death.
"This is one of those things that, when it comes out that a 16-year-old died, it kind of makes you pause and say, 'what is going on?'" Nocco said.
Investigators are trying to determine what the argument was about, and why Sirmons, a Zephyrhills High School student, was in Wesley Chapel.
The death stunned the quiet Meadow Pointe neighborhood.
"I'm shedding tears for the victim and for the family of the person that's caused this," said Norma Robles, who lives nearby and didn't know the victim or suspect. "I can just put myself in the place of the mother that is hurting right now at the loss of her son and then during the holidays now, that is going to be so tough."
Investigators said several witnesses identified Gittens as the suspect and detectives were able to quickly track him down.
The sheriff said Gittens has head several run-ins with law enforcement, including arrests for weapons, drug and burglary charges.
"They have arrested him, pulled him over, stopped him numerous times and when this came out and they saw him, they knew exactly who they were going after," Nocco said.
