A pilot made an emergency landing in Polk County lake after his plane's engines died, the sheriff's office said.
It happened around noon today.
Eric McCoy, 48, had taken off from Winter Haven airport when he began having engine trouble. A short time later, the engine failed.
He made a "May Day" call to Bartow Airport, and told them he didn't have a lot of good options and was going to land in a lake.
McCoy made a hard landing safely in Lake Hancock in about four feet of water.
Another pilot heard his distress call and flew from Bartow Airport
to the lake. He picked McCoy up and took him back to the airport where EMS
crews checked him out.
He was not injured.
The sheriff's office notified the FAA and NTSB about the crash.
