Study Looks At When Teens Get Cell Phones

Posted: Updated:

Christmas is right around the corner, and many kids who don't already have a cell phone probably have one on their wish list. When is the right time to buy your kid a cell phone?

Though the "right age" is always up for debate, Pew Research shows that most parents buy their kids a phone for the first time between the age of 12 and 14.

58% of teens now have a smart phone, says the study.

Financial experts suggest buying a cheaper alternative, which can go for under 20 bucks, if your child is under 12 and will be using the phone sparingly.

Previous studies have shown that 38% of kids under age of two have used smartphones!
