It was a warm night in St. Petersburg Wednesday, but the forecast called for snow at All Children's Hospital. It's the staff's way of bringing the season to patients stuck in the hospital for the holidays.
The terrace was decked and the sounds were merry, but one thing sent this winter wonderland over the top: snow in St. Petersburg.
Kids gathered by the dozens transforming the hospital's rooftop deck into a holiday headquarters, complete with snowball fights and gingerbread houses.
"I love it down here! I didn't even know the superheroes were going to be down here!" said patient Troy Galloway.
Patients' eyes lit up with holiday cheer, as the spirit of the season overpowered their pains. For a night, they just got to be kids excited about Christmas.
"It's really easy as the hours tick by in the hospital to lose sight of things that once felt important to you. This allows you to take a break from the day and the hospital, and just kind of remember who you are, and your child, and watch the children play," said Holly Ott of All Children's Hospital.
For those patients unable to leave their rooms, the party came to them. They got personal visits from superheroes straight to their hospital door.
