She's only 6 years old, but Emma Brodie she already has so much compassion -- way beyond her years.
Instead of collecting Christmas presents, she asked her mom if she could collect shoes for needy kids instead.
"I am doing something God wants me to do," Emma says.
Her mom says she made the request just before her birthday.
"Three days before her birthday, she came to me and asked if she could collect shoes for kids who don't have any," Amanda Brodie said.
Emma came up with the idea after seeing a commercial about children who don't have the necessities.
"I want shoes instead of presents for people who don't have any," Emma says.
So far, she's collected 350 pairs.
"We have already sent 80 pairs of shoes to Nicaragua," Amanda said. "A mission team was going to a school there, and we felt that they would have a need. And we were told it was like Christmas as they opened up their suitcases and took out the shoes. The kids were so excited."
Both Emma and her mom hopes this inspires other kids -- no matter how old or young -- to get involved in their communities, and help others.
