The weather outside is frightful in most of the country, but here in Florida, we're enjoying beach weather in December and we have no problem rubbing it in. Yesterday was dubbed national "Hate Florida Day" on social media.
How can people hate Florida and this lovely weather? It is absolutely lovely outside -- great temperatures, a little light wind. However, when you look out on the beach, you realize that this is why people come to visit Florida and Clearwater Beach in particular.
It is one of the top destinations for snowbirds because this time of year, while everyone else is under ice, we've got white sandy beaches and that's what folks can come from up north and enjoy.
All we've seen today is folks jogging along the beach, coming out and taking advantage of the outdoor weather at a time of year when folks up north are getting a little cabin fever cause they're stuck inside. A lot of people we talked to say that's the reason they came to Florida in the first place.
"I come from Syracuse and I know it's snowing back home. Heading back home on Thursday. I'm not looking forward to it, but unbelievable weather. Great morning for a run," said one beachgoer.
"I'm originally from up north. This is why I'm in Florida," added another.
Just to give you a little perspective, it was 70 degrees in Clearwater this morning, but -17 degrees in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
We're going have temperatures in the 70s and the 80s for the rest of the week.
