Bucs defense lets performance do the talking

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

After an explosive first quarter, Buffalo put the Bucs' offense to sleep, only managing 28 yards in the second half.

Mike Glennon completed only five of his 16 attempts for 16 yards in the final half of football. He finished with just 90 yards, the fewest he's thrown for this year.

"In this one, with the way our defense was playing, we did what we needed to do as an offense, but they took care of the rest," Glennon said.

"That's why it's a team (game)," said Cornerback Johnthan Banks.  "When one side of the ball struggles, [the] other side is there to pick them up. We had their backs and they were able to put a couple points on the board. We played lights out and that was it."

The Bucs' defensive attitude wasn't concerned with what their offense couldn't do.

They had one goal: Keep Buffalo out of the end zone. They accomplished that for the first time this season.

"Whether they score one million points or whether they score 10 points, if the offense on the other side of the ball can't score on our side of the defense, they can't win," said defensive lineman Da'Quan Bowers. "That's our motto; we just try to keep them out the end zone."

The Bucs turned away the Bills time after the time with relentless pressure, gathering a season high seven sacks. The constant harassment allowed the secondary to add to their league lead in interceptions.

With 21, the Bucs have gone from worst to first in the league in just a year.

"That's big," said Dashon Goldson. "That's huge. We got 21 interceptions. That's huge, especially for a defense. That's just some of the things we can do around here. We're a real good football team – young and fast and skilled, very skilled."

The Bucs are now heading in a winning direction, with four out of five victories. Is it enough of a turnaround to save a coach that was on a hot seat."

"We support Coach Schiano," said Darrelle Revis. "We don't know what is going to happen in the future or anything with anybody on this team, including me or anybody. We just have to sit here and execute the game plan."

"We still have three games left. We have to just continue to make as much as we can out of this year. and hopefully we can win the next three and finish out strong, because that momentum can lead over to next year."
