Bobby Rainey was the first to bring the crowd to their feet, but it was the Bucs defense that earned a standing ovation.
For the first time this season the Bucs defense didn't allow a touchdown. They get contributions from everywhere.
"Everybody was clicking, said Bobby Rainey. Pick here, pick there. Big hits here, big hits there. Sacks here, like I say it was an all around... awesome game for the defense, awesome."
The Bucs match their season high, forcing 5 turnovers. The results from immense pressure brought by a defensive line that racked a season best 7 sacks. Being pummeled by the Panthers a week ago was the Bucs underlining motivation.
"Everybody was tuned in this week in practice, said Darrelle Revis. I think because everyone was upset about the Carolina game (laugh). I mean guys were really upset. You know you just have to tip your hat off to the D-line. Every time I turned around in coverage... those guys were on E. J. Manuel."
Inside the Bucs locker room players questioned whether this was their best defensive game. There is no question that this was the best 'team' effort as 9 different players recorded an interception or a sack.
Even Darrelle Revis gets to E.J. Manuel. Revis recorded his first career sack as a Buc and just the second of his career.
"When I seen it I said, who is that guy because I had just seen the #4, said Gerald McCoy. I was like there goes Lavonte (#54), ok cool. Revis? It caught me off guard. Yeah, it was a collective effort today."
"I've be running it (the play) all week in practice, said Revis. Sometimes you don't really know if it's going to get called or not depending how the game is going and the situation. Coach called it and I happened to be there to make the play."
It's Lavonte David that earned the most praise from his teammates. David picked up a sack and had 2 interceptions, giving him 5 each in those categories this year. He's only the 7th player in NFL history with 5 sacks and 5 picks in a season.
"You all thought I was joking when I called him 'The Flash' last year, said McCoy. You all seen it first hand. That dude, he can just get from one spot to the other, out of nowhere. It's ridiculous."
"In the game Gerald is right in front of me every play, said David. He creates lanes for me too. So you have to take your hat off to him. You know he's a great guy. That's why I say, it's a team game. You do things for teammates, that's what we are trying to do."
It's efforts like this on defense that has lead the Bucs to 4 wins the last 5 games.
