4 Dead in San Clemente Crash

Posted: Updated:

The driver of a BMW lost control of the car, causing a horrific crash that killed four people.  Hours after the crash, grieving friends went to the scene with flowers and candles.

"He was such a good person, really good heart. Always there for us," said Eligio Sanchez, a friend of one victim.

The crash happened at 1:30a.m. Saturday, on south El Camino Real, in San Clemente.

"It sounds like they went off the side of the road and made impact with a pole and a tree," said Sgt. Jeff Hallock, with the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

Lucia Solis, 27; Martin Nieto, 26; and Louie Silva all died.  Pablo Vargas Diaz, 25, also died and friends tell FOX 11 Diaz was driving.

The Sheriff's department says alcohol and speed were factors in this crash.  The car smashed into a light pole so hard, it shattered the base and knocked it over.

"They were at some bars down the street. So I guess they were hanging out, playing some pool," said Juan Anguino who added that he grew up with the victims, and says the driver of the car was like a brother to him. "I'm going to miss him dearly man. He was always there for me.  He was a good person, I don't know what happened," said Anguino.

"He was a really responsible person, he was the manager of the bank.  I mean he was really responsible. We were really surprised that this happened," said Sanchez.

According to friends, Josephine Garcia, 24, was the only survivor.

"She did have extensive injuries when she was transported," said Sgt. Hallock.

It was a miracle she survived because the BMW was going so fast, that even after hitting the first pole the car sped for another two blocks and hit another pole tree and a sign before crashing to a halt.
