We're learning more about a big billing mistake for thousands of BrightHouse Cable customers.
It does not just involve Bank of America customers.
BrightHouse tells us the number of victims still stands at about 3,000 -- people who paid their cable bills with handwritten checks.
Bright house uses a company called Bill 2 Pay to process paper checks, and that company somehow accidentally submitted those checks to various banks three or even four times.
Emails we're getting at FOX 13 News confirm what you might suspect: customers now have bank balances hundreds of dollars lower than they thought.
In a couple of cases, there were automatic transfers from savings accounts, and overdraft charges resulted.
And at first, it looked like only Bank of America customers were affected. But our viewers also bank at a couple of credit unions, and in one case, a Pasco County bank.
So we should broaden our suggestion to anybody who wrote a check to BrightHouse recently: check your bank balance.
BrightHouse still says it may take until tomorrow to reverse the multiple charges.
The cable company still promises to make good any penalties that were charged because of this.
We cannot say anybody has been made whole yet, but we know many people are still waiting.
