The Bucs PR staff is great at crunching numbers, and on Wednesday as the team went back to work, they had an interesting section of Lavonte David vs. Derrick Brooks.
Lavonte David should be going to the Pro Bowl, but the fact that he plays on a team that is 3-9 will probably keep him out of that game.
But there is no question David is off to a "Derrick Brooks" kind of start to his NFL career. Take a look at some of the numbers the Bucs were crunching:
This is a comparison of their first 28 games, and the numbers are close.
Lavonte Davis has a long, long way to go to be compared to Brooks, a player who I think will be going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014. But there is no question David is making an impact -- and he has really impressed Derek Brooks.
"I'm very surprised that he stepped up as early as he did, and I shared with him in numerous conversations last season about how far ahead at this point in his career that he is than where I was. He was calling signals. He didn't come off the field. My rookie year I didn't call the signals. I didn't say anything, and I didn't play on third down as much," Brooks said.
Which is a great point by #55. Brooks didn't hit the field having to be the same kind of leader Lavonte David has had to be. Hopefully, David will really end up following in Brooks' footsteps.
