Driver jumps parking lot curb, hits fire hydrant in Hartland Twp.

A Fox 2 viewer was pulling into a grocery store on Highland Road in Hartland Township Monday afternoon when she noticed a vehicle had jumped the curb and hit a fire hydrant in the parking lot.

Witnesses say the vehicle jumped the curb after nearly hitting people. The driver tried to make a run for it, but the people chased him down.

One of the witnesses took pictures with her cell phone, which show Michigan State Police on the scene. They are clearing out the vehicle and, in one of the photos, you can see they have lined up a collection of cans of an unidentified substance on the vehicle's roof.

Witnesses believe the cans are compressed air that the suspect was huffing to get high.  One witness says she overheard that the man behind the wheel is in his late teens or early 20s, and was under the influence.
