Vinny Lecavalier still makes an impression. He returned to the Forum Tuesday for a non-gameday practice, and the former Lightning captain was impeccably dressed -- blue suit with a subtle window-check plaid pattern over a dress shirt with no tie.
Tradition has players wear suits on the day of the game, but practice sessions are a little more casual. Not Vinny. Still the consummate pro, the man who won a Stanley Cup in this building stopped by to see old friends still with the team he skated for from 1999 through 2012.
And he dressed for the occasion.
"It's nice to see teammates and trainers that you built relationships with over all these years," said Lecavalier. "I can't predict how I'm going to feel tomorrow, but it's definitely going to be special."
Lecavalier's Flyers -- it still seems weird to many to think of Vinny as a Flyer -- will take on the Lightning at the Forum Wednesday night at 7:30. Expect Vinny to get a warm welcome from the home crowd, even as they lustily boo his Philly teammates.
Playing against former teammate and pal Marty St. Louis will be interesting.
"In practice, going against Marty one-on-one, we couldn't stop laughing," St. Louis said. "It's going to be different."
Vinny Lecavalier will be honored by his former team as a Lightning community hero for his work in the Bay Area, particularly his work with pediatric cancer patients.
