Police in Winter Haven say a woman accidentally fired through her front door at what she thought was her boyfriend, but it turned out to be her own daughter.
Adele Bing, 52, faces second-degree murder charges in the death of her daughter Ruby. Investigators say it all started with an argument between Adele and her boyfriend, James Lane, earlier Monday.
According to police, the elder Bing hit Lane over the head with a gun during the argument. Lane went to a hospital to be treated, but when there was a knock on Bing's door at 8:45 p.m., she thought it was him returning home.
Bing armed herself with a baseball bat and a gun, police say, and as she opened the door, she accidentally fired a shot.
It was not Lane at the door, but Bing's daughter Ruby. The 25-year-old, who was holding her 4-month-old daughter, was hit in the chest and died at the scene.
"How can I look my grandkids in the face and say I killed their mother?" police quoted Bing as telling them. "Y'all can lock me away for good."
The baby was not hurt.
