He needs a boost to reach the keys, but once Elias Phoenix's fingers find his piano, what's next is truly magical.
The 7-year old Brandon boy plays like a pro. His self-taught mom is his only teacher. While he can read sheet music, he plays most of the melodies from memory.
His talent's now getting noticed. He was selected as a finalist to play in the American Protégé International Music Talent Competition next weekend at New York City's Carnegie Hall.
While that stage is a bit bigger than his living room, Elias says playing there is a wish come true.
"Before I even started the competition, way before that, I had a dream about Carnegie Hall, of me playing there. It was deep in my heart," he said Thursday.
Elias, his twin brother, and his mom plan to leave for NYC on Tuesday. The show is scheduled for November 30th and will feature talents from around the world.
