Lake Wales teens teach tech seminars

LAKE WALES (FOX 13) -

Does your smart phone make you feel stupid? Does your computer have your number? If you are a bit lost in this digital world, help may be on the way.

This Thursday, the IT kids at Bok Academy in Lake Wales are holding a free seminar for older folks to help them better understand technology.

Jim Perry has already signed up. He is 73 years-old. His teachers will be 12 and 13 years-old. But that doesn't bother him.

"I am ready to go," Perry told FOX 13 on Tuesday. He eventually wants to buy a smart phone and build his own website.

It's not hard to believe that kids are frequently head and shoulders above their parents and grandparents.

Because they grew up in a digital world, young kids are being called "digital natives."

"This is their nitch, and who better to show you around than a native," asked Bok teacher Nikki Sealey.

The seminar will run from 4:30 to 7:30 pm at the B Street Community Center, 230 B Street, Lake Wales. The number there is (863) 679-8091.
